LIGHTING ACADEMIC WORK-Neuruppin Lighting Masterplan

Location : Neuruppin, Germany

Type of project : Lighting design(A group-working project)

Responsibility : Lighting design and concept, Presentation

Main idea&concept : Neuruppin is a town in Brandenburg, Germany. It is located on the shore of the Ruppiner lake. Neuruppin has the reputation of being the most Prussian of all Prussian towns, due to its former status as a Prussian garrison town. The novelist Theodor Fontane, the general Hermann Hoth, and the architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel were born in Neuruppin. Also, there are many historical places which are ignored by the people of Meuruppin.

In order to bring that importance back, "Pride of Neuruppin" is introduced to use as a concept of Neuruppin lighting masterplan. We try to make people and tourists perceive the abandoned pride. We illuminate the significant historical places, two important districts, old wall, promenade area, and the main axis of the city which nobody know. In addition, we create the different lighting situations for the gateway of the city by following the approach.

For the safety aspect, we use the fading of light in order to remind the drivers to reduce the speed when they are moving close to the city. The brightness of the lighting situation is gradually higher when the car moving to the center, so driver can know that slowing down is needed. Moreover, fading out of light relates to the need of light as well.

LIGHTING ACADEMIC PROJECT-My own luminaire

Type of work : Luminaire design
Responsibility : Luminire in 1:1, Poster, Exhibition
Main idea&concept :
“The cobble stone” inspired by the cobble stone-the important material of hardscape in Germany and Europe. It is more than a stone. Although, it is a modular form, it can be created variety and interesting patterns. Similary, this luminaire was built by using the repetitive module of many squares. Though, it is the same size, it can create the different pattern of shadow obviously. The shadow appeared on a floor, walls, and ceiling is octagon because of using double-layer walls which built by the squares. Moreover, double-layer walls and the squares with metallic material on one side can make the shadow has more dimension. In addition, the joint of the small squares is the same, it is easy to build. The function looks similar to LEGO-the famous toys which can be built variety shapes. It means that everyone can create your own luminaire.

LIGHTING ACADEMIC PROJECT-Music School Aula

Location : Wismar, Germany
Type of Project : Lighting Design(A group-working project)
Responsibility : Lighting design, Presentation, Lighting calculation, Lighting specification
Main idea&concept :
Music School Aula is situated in a residential area. In order to enhance a good relationship between the school and a community, we decided to use “cozy community complex” as a main concept of a room renovation to create a restful, welcoming atmosphere for gathering people in the district as a community center. We try to create this feeling by using 3 main strategies. Firstly, we use warn white color temperature. Secondly, we use dimmable and separate the circuits in order to adjust the scene and atmosphere. Lastly, we try to make an intimate scale by lowering the eight-meter height of the room. We light up the ceiling of theroom in order that people can identify the boundary of the room and they can perceive that the room is not too high to create warm atmosphere.
